Useful properties of aloe - treatment of diseases, healing and cosmetic properties of aloe

Houseplants

For several thousand years beneficial properties of aloe used by mankind in industries such as medicine and cosmetology. And in Ancient Egypt, aloe-based composition was prepared for embalming. One and a half or two centuries ago in Europe, doctors prescribed aloe to patients as often as medicines, and modern medicine refers to this "doctor in a clay pot" without a shadow of condescension. However, it should be borne in mind that out of more than 400 species of aloe that exist today, only aloe tree and aloe vera (aloe real or aloe barbados) have medicinal properties.

Healing properties

Aloe is a perennial plant related to succulents, which are distinguished by the fact that they can retain a large amount of moisture in their leaves for a long time. In the wild, aloe grows up to two, and sometimes up to five meters high, at home, the aloe bush does not exceed several tens of centimeters. Under the thin skin of juicy leaves is a thick gel-like mass, which is the healing basis for the medicine.

Two substances can be obtained from aloe vera that are used in both folk and traditional medicine - juice and gel. Aloe juice contains a huge amount of useful substances: trace elements (calcium, potassium, magnesium), vitamins (C, B, A, E), mineral salts, enzymes, tannins, flavonoids, catechins, glycoproteins and polysaccharides. In addition, cosmetologists claim that the aloin contained in aloe leaves neutralizes the harmful effects of sunlight on the skin and gives it elasticity.

But the main wealth of homemade aloe, often called the agave among the people, is natural antibiotics phytoncides, which are successfully used in the fight against viral diseases and inflammatory processes. After analyzing the chemical composition of aloe juice, scientists have found that the plant has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, cleansing, immunomodulatory, anti-allergenic, antispasmodic and regenerative properties, restoring and supporting the vital functions of the body.

Aloe vera for disease

What diseases does aloe vera treat? Since ancient times, burns and wounds, including purulent ones, have healed with the juice and mass of aloe leaves. Historians claim that Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra solely because of the aloe plantations cultivated by the locals. After the victory, it was with aloe compresses that the conquerors treated the wounded soldiers. In addition, aloe juice successfully treats infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci, is used in the treatment of abscesses and phlegmon. Aloe-emodin in the juice, preventing the development of malignant formations, promotes the growth of new, healthy cells.

The beneficial properties of aloe in dentistry are effectively used: in the treatment of stomatitis, periodontitis and periodontal disease, it is shown to chew the leaves or rinse the mouth with plant juice; Acute toothache can be quickly relieved by placing a piece of aloe leaf on a sore tooth. With local baldness, rubbing the agave juice into the scalp with a simultaneous massage of problem areas has a wonderful effect - thus awakening the hair follicles. And they also make masks from aloe, which have anti-aging properties.

Oculists recommend aloe in the treatment of optic nerve atrophy, conjunctivitis, myopia, keratitis, blepharitis and even glaucoma. For this, an aqueous extract of a plant of industrial production is used. In the treatment of skin diseases (dermatitis, eczema, any manifestations of allergies on the skin), aloe leaves are finely cut and used as a basis for compresses. In unforeseen circumstances, with the help of aloe, you can stop bleeding, since tannins and catechins increase blood clotting.

The healing properties of aloe are also used in the treatment of diseases of internal organs, such as, for example, cholecystitis, coronary heart disease, diabetes, chronic constipation, inflammatory diseases of the stomach, intestines, kidneys, urinary and gall bladder. Aloe is also actively used in gynecology. As for cosmetology, there is not a single well-known cosmetics company that does not use the beneficial properties of aloe in its products.

But, despite the existing evidence of the beneficial properties of aloe tree, it must be used with caution, especially when it comes to consuming aloe juice internally. While improper use will not do much harm to your health, you can suffer from some side effects. Therefore, use this "elixir of life" only on the recommendation of a doctor and in strictly prescribed doses.

Thanks for the interesting recipes! I have been using scarlet for over a year now and there are wonderful results for the whole family: my mother drinks the gel, feels much better, her 5-year-old daughter has gone eczema, my husband does not have a backache (I rub it with a cream based on aloe), it’s gone bleeding gums (I use aloe toothpaste with propolis), in general, just countless. Only I do not do it myself, but I use finished products based not on the woody scarlet growing on our windowsills, but on the aloe vera (true), belonging to the lily family, which is not a powerful biostimulant and is indicated for pregnant women and for any diseases, i.e. to have no side effects at all. This is just an amazing plant, and the more I learn about it, the more I am surprised!

Tatyana25 Sep 2012 at 13:47

As a child, my mother and grandmother always applied aloe to my broken knees))) and they also treated a runny nose, not that now everyone switched to drops from pharmacies, but they were of no use. Previously, there probably was no family, who would not grow aloe on the windowsill, and now you rarely see this "home doctor". Thank you Irina for the reminders!

Sergey25 Sep 2012 at 8:47

We also grow Aloe at home. It helps a lot, especially when coughing. But, to be honest, I did not know that he still helps with other ailments. Thanks a lot for the article. And Victoria Ivanova's voice is really magical. And the song is amazing.

Iryna25 Sep 2012 at 3:30

Aloe is really great for many diseases. But I did not know that it should not be used for neoplasms in the body. Ira, it's good that you are warning about the possible negative effects of aloe on the body. Thanks for the recipes! And for a sincere gift!

Granny Granny24 Sep 2012 at 23:14

Aloe tree rescued me from an expensive gynecological operation. True, tree-like is not recommended for women, aloe vera is safer. But this is a moot point. I could not get faith and took a chance - I bought two huge tree-like ones. For about six months, I ate them, and everything ended well. And so, in general, they were not often used. I didn’t like to grow it at home, there is not enough space, but it is very spreading. After the repair, there will be an opportunity to grow on a wide windowsill, I will use it.

23 Sep 2012 at 18:53

We use aloe at home constantly, for various ailments. It helps a lot. Thank you for the article!

23 Sep 2012 at 10:45

The voice is amazing! Thank you very much, Irochka! And I realized that I urgently needed to start aloe!)

Tamara22 Sep 2012 at 23:39

A very useful article on aloe. My mother always uses it for almost all diseases and always offers me, and I brush it off and swallow the pills. Now I will definitely use it for all ailments. The musical gift is delicious as always!
